We had the good fortune and pleasure to work with Curly Productions yesterday in the stunningly beautiful North Wales. Its funny because I grew up a stones throw from this amazing part of the country, and did indeed visit many of the places we were shooting in but seeing the landmarks from above really blew me away.
It was always going to be a bit of a road trip – we have 4 locations planned, each a stunning as the last. firstly, Harlech. After waking up to some pancakes (it was pancake day!!, sorry, shrove Tuesday) we achieved some beautiful bay area shots – and Harlech has a world class beach for sure! Then we moved onto Snowdonia, Pen-y-Pas and it appears i’m not a fit as I though I was! A short hike later we had views of the mountains and valley below. Next stop the Menai Bridge – winds were picking up slightly at this point and gusting through the bridge area funnelled by the structure so we decided to make good use of this and let the aircraft float with the wind away from the structure to reveal the second bridge on the Menai Strait, the Britannia Bridge. Lastly we headed up the great Orme in Llandudno for some shots of the pier. The sun was just about to leave us when we wrapped for the day, what splendid timing!
I have worked with many authorities over the last few years, organising permissions for filming and flying locations but the guys we worked with on this job were stand-out helpful. Massive thanks to those from the various councils in Llandudno, Anglesey and Snowdonia. Also – RAF Valley were great communicators and helped us stay visible and safe (there can be a fair amount of low flying activity in North Wales so it was important to stay aware and conscious of the fact that there may be other air users!).
I am really looking forward to seeing the results! check out Curly Productions in the meantime – http://www.onlinevideoproduction.co.uk/
